The Summer Monsoon

If you’re not familiar with the Southwest, we have two distinct summer seasons here. Before July conditions are very dry with low humidity and infrequent rain. Temperatures get to the highest of the year in late June but still drop into the 60’s at night. Around the first of July there is a seasonal change in the wind direction known as the monsoon. This results in higher humidity (but still dry by most standards), somewhat lower daytime temperatures, and much more frequent rain and thundershowers. A rain event can drop the temperature by 20 degrees! Here’s a frequent sight near sunset during the monsoon:

Our own founder, and current fellow Villager, Jeff Zucker, continues to practice his own brand of architecture. His website is fresh and interesting and mentions Manzanita Village in several places. Give it a look.

Open Village on October 24, 2015

Manzanita Village will be hosting an Open Village on Saturday, October 24, from 10am until 2pm where the public is invited to take a self-guided tour. Villagers will be available at points of interest around the neighborhood to answer questions about living in community.

Points of interest include our community hiking trails, common garden, chicken coop, and extensive water harvesting infrastructure.

If you’re curious and want to see what we’re all about, learn about the work we’re doing, and maybe interested in becoming a Villager yourself, we invite you to come see us during this Open Village event.
